Garden clubs have long been sources of community, education and outreach for local garden enthusiasts. From executing civic beautification through planting, to offering workshops and lecture series for their constituents, garden clubs are invaluable resources for those interested in horticulture, landscape design, and local ecology. Jay Archer was invited to speak at the Hopp Garden Club in Bedford, NY earlier this month.

Jay’s lecture covered his unique approach to landscape design that blends knowledge from the fields of ecology, horticulture, climate resilience, and stormwater engineering. Jay’s talk was tailored to the audience, showcasing these themes at a residential scale and drawing on example case studies from his thirty-year career in landscape design, installation and maintenance.

In October of this year, Jay will be speaking to the Lewisboro Garden Club. This lecture will cover similar topics but with a focus on the fall landscape, with practical advice for home gardeners on how to tackle designing for late season interest and how to conduct an ecological fall clean up.

In March of 2027, Jay will be speaking at the Green Fingers Greenwich Garden Club, in Greenwich, CT, focusing on how landscape design can be leveraged to improve biodiversity, sequester carbon, and conserve soil and water – essential services, especially amidst a changing climate.
