Why Our Clients Love to Work With Us

Our approach is complex, but the results are noteworthy. Many of our clients tell us they're thrilled to see birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife visit their new, healthy landscape. This is how we set ourselves apart from other landscaping companies in Westchester County, New York, and the surrounding tri-state area:

Land-Stewardship

RESPONSIBLE LAND STEWARDSHIP

Green Jay Landscape Design practices responsible land stewardship through thoughtful and beautiful ecological landscape design. Our process and unique approach to native landscaping aims to support the healthiest biological environment possible through the use of 100% natural, organic earth-sourced products. These carbon net-negative environments are built without (or with very little) gas and oil and can, in turn, be maintained without gas and oil.

Refined-Process

A REFINED PROCESS

Our process has been refined over time, and we have the background and experience to help your landscape thrive. We provide high-end presentation materials to help you visualize every aspect of the design, from the planting plan to plant photos, hardscape photos, a plant matrix organized by bloom time, and a "Beneficials" poster highlighting all the wildlife your new landscape will support.

We start with transparency about project costs and timing, and we'll keep you informed throughout the process so you know what to expect from us at every stage.

Network

A STRATEGIC NETWORK

With our trusted Preferred Partners network, you can complete all aspects of your new landscape under our guidance and quality standards, and we will outline the appropriate phasing of each step for the most efficient landscape installation. Once your project is complete, we partner with local, organic maintenance providers to ensure your native landscape will thrive for years to come.

Learn More About Green Jay Landscape Design

Founder Jay Archer felt a disconnect between the vibrant, life-supporting ecosystems he explored as an avid outdoorsman, naturalist, gardener, and environmental educator, and the sterile, overly-manicured landscapes he saw throughout the community. After developing and teaching ecological restoration at the New York Botanical Garden and the Institute for Ecosystem Studies, Jay founded Green Jay Landscape Design to disrupt the landscape status quo. As a team, we reject commonplace practices, like gas-powered leaf blowers and toxic chemical applications, and build engaging landscapes that serve as ecological models. A Reputation for Responsible Land Stewardship and Low-Impact Development

We are humbled when our clients trust us with the re-imagining and rewilding of their landscapes, and it brings us joy to know you love these vibrant outdoor spaces as much as we love creating them.

Jay and his team were able to divert storm water away from our house into dry wells on our property as well as improving the permeability of our soil and optimizing drainage throughout the property. His creative solution to our drainage problems minimized excavation, preserved the natural landscape and allowed for infiltration into the aquifer rather than diverting water into storm drains. The team was very professional, reliable, and skilled. I could not recommend Jay and his team highly enough.

If you are looking for a one of a kind garden, which is both beautiful and ecologically beneficial, GreenJay is the perfect landscaper. It’s incredibly rare to find a company that exceeds expectations; Jay and team from consultation through design and execution are the best in the business. We are thrilled with the vision that Jay created for us. It has transformed our property into our own little slice of heaven. If you get a chance to work with Jay and his team, don’t hesitate, do it!

Working with Green Jay has been a pleasure. Their project estimates with detailed plant lists allowed me to review and discuss choices before installation. When some plants were not available or didn’t quite work where planned, we were able to discuss and agree on changes. The professionals are very knowledgeable and committed to landscapes that support nature and ecological priorities. The crew is friendly and efficient. It’s not cheap and I didn’t expect it to be, but the price is fair for the quality and skill involved. The result is nothing less than spectacular. I am thrilled with Green Jay’s work.

Our Approach to Landscape Design and Installation

Over our years of experience in the Westchester County, New York tri-state area, we've refined our process to ensure outstanding results for our clients. This is what to expect when you work with us:

Step 1 - Get in Touch

Fill out our contact form to book a 15-minute call at your convenience. We'll discuss your project to determine if we're the best fit for you. If so, we'll schedule your $300 on-site consultation to define the scope of work and budget.

Step 2 - On-Site Consultation

Before the consultation, we'll send you a questionnaire. Your responses will give us a better understanding of the project so we can arrive prepared. During the consultation, we consider:

  • The path of the sun
  • Soil types
  • Drainage Flow Paths
  • Existing vegetation
  • Viewsheds
  • Potential for habitat
  • Invasive Species Control
  • And more

As we discuss your vision for the space, we'll take photos and annotate your survey to develop a plan and budget. We'll share our ideas, as well, and point out options you might not have considered. Within three business days, we'll provide your landscape design agreement.

Step 3 - Landscape Design Contract

Upon contract acceptance and receipt of the design fee, we'll add you to our design queue. We'll schedule the initial site visit to start working on the design. Architectural drawings, 3D renderings, and construction drawings and permitting are available upon request.

Step 4 - Initial Design Visit & Site Analysis

This is when we'll take detailed measurements and fully assess the property. Please be prepared to discuss any new ideas or revisions to your goals. We'll let you know when you can expect to receive your finished landscape design.

Step 5 - Design Presentation

We'll schedule another visit to review the master plan, which includes:

  • Conceptual drawing
  • Planting plan
  • Plant palette photos
  • Materials list
  • Scope of work
  • Cost
  • Suggested installation phases
  • Estimated start and end dates

Your project can be completed in phases. After the design presentation, we'll meet with you on-site or remotely within the week to discuss any revisions you might have and how we intend to proceed. When you approve the design, we typically accept a 50 percent deposit and put you on the work schedule.

Step 6 - Installation

With our horticultural expertise, master masonry and craftsmanship, and superior project management, we'll bring your design to life. This includes advanced site development, open communication, and regular updates. All plants are installed according to Green Jay Landscape Design's organic gardening specifications.

Step 7 - Final Walkthrough + Ongoing Maintenance

When the project is complete, we'll walk the property with you to make sure everything meets your expectations. We will collect the remaining balance due on your investment, request a review, and schedule a professional photography session.

We’ll assist you in learning how to take care of your new garden. If your property is larger than five acres, we'll invite you to join our Sustainable Stewardship Program. For smaller projects, we can refer you to local, organic maintenance providers.
