Terraced Native Landscape

Hartsdale, NY

After renovating their home, this client hired GJLD to incorporate new hardscape elements and solve persistent drainage problems.

A new front walkway and natural stone staircase completed the circulation gaps throughout. A series of drainage strategies including bio-cell installation, soil remediation and terracing effectively interrupted high velocity stormwater and directed it to zones for infiltration. The front lawn was expansive and steep, and the clients longed to add more native plants to their property. GJLD designed three large garden terraces that break up the front slope and repurposed the remaining lawn area as mowed paths between the gardens. Now, the front yard boasts tremendous biodiversity with a carefully cultivated mix of native perennials, ornamental grasses, flowering and fruiting shrubs, and evergreen ground covers.

Working with Green Jay has been a pleasure. Their project estimates with detailed plant lists allowed me to review and discuss choices before installation. When some plants were not available or didn’t quite work where planned, we were able to discuss and agree on changes. The professionals are very knowledgeable and committed to landscapes that support nature and ecological priorities. The crew is friendly and efficient. It’s not cheap and I didn’t expect it to be, but the price is fair for the quality and skill involved. The result is nothing less than spectacular. I am thrilled with Green Jay’s work.” – Catherine Ludden
