Woodland Rock Garden

Bedford, NY

Working within the constraints of a shady site with lean, rocky soil, GJLD designed a woodland understory planting that creates lush intimacy around the deck.

Playing with texture, form and flowering times, this shade garden has plenty of color and contrast all season long. Our landscape design strove to accentuate the natural rock outcropping, not disguise it. The planting also stabilizes the soil, prevents erosion, and preserves the integrity of the slope. A predominantly native plant palette doubles as a habitat for wildlife.
