Leveraging Our Strategic Network and Years of Experience to Deliver Comprehensive Outdoor Solutions

In Bergen County, New Jersey, residents and visitors have incredible opportunities to get away from the overly-manicured, high-maintenance outdoor spaces we all too often find in the suburbs. At Green Jay Landscape Design, we offer sustainable landscaping services that help you create thriving habitats at home. You don't have to travel to enjoy the sights and sounds of lush plant life, pollinators, and local wildlife.

Benefits of Professional Landscaping

With a refined process and a unique approach to landscaping solutions, we aim to rehabilitate outdoor spaces that have been disturbed, compromised, or contaminated and restore the health of the landscape using Earth-sourced products and sustainable practices. We design and install habitats that support biodiversity in Bergen County, New Jersey, and throughout the tri-state area. Our team has years of experience and a particular passion for ecological landscape design, stormwater management, native landscaping, outdoor living, wetlands restoration, permaculture, pollinator gardens, and more. Together with our Preferred Partners Network, we prioritize every client. We offer services like landscape lighting and irrigation, and we also specialize in these landscaping services:

  • Ecological Landscape Design: We prioritize a healthy planet—and a healthy lifestyle for our clients. We avoid the use of chemicals as we plan your landscape to improve soil microbial communities, restore habitat for wildlife, and manage stormwater.
  • Landscape Construction: From grading and site development to custom natural stone masonry, organic horticulture, and more, we specialize in a holistic approach to  Low-Impact Development (LID)  following the Sustainable SITES Initiative.
  • General Contracting: Complete the most complex landscaping projects with the Green Jay team and our high standards for sustainability, safety, and craftsmanship.
  • Ecological Consulting: Rely on our education and experience for guidance on erosion control, invasive species management, carbon-smart landscaping, and more.
  • Residential Sustainable Stewardship: For properties of five acres or more, we provide holistic property evaluations in an effort to improve ecosystem services, biodiversity, natural resource management, and the overall health of your landscape.

Your project starts with a detailed analysis and proposal based on your unique property features and needs. That includes consideration for drainage, existing vegetation, the path of the sun, and so much more. We manage every detail of your landscape restoration or outdoor living installation, and we keep you updated along the way. You deserve to know what to expect, and we invite your calls and questions.

With responsible land stewardship, your outdoor space is naturally healthier and self-sustaining, requiring less water and maintenance as the years go by. It's a gift to yourself and a gift to whoever comes after you. How We Build Carbon Net Negative Landscape Environments

Over our years of experience in the Westchester County, New York tri-state area, we've refined our process to ensure outstanding results for our clients. This is what to expect when you work with us:

Step 1 - Site Protection & Construction Layout

Complete necessary site protection: mark utilities and hazards and install erosion control and mature tree protection. Layout approved design on-site.

Step 2 - Site Development & Land Clearing

Perform necessary grading, terraforming, terracing, and/or excavating to prepare the land for design development.

Step 3 - Hardscape & Plant Materials Selection

We hand-select each and every tree, shrub, perennial, boulder, and path/patio stone used in our projects. Details define a design!

Step 4 - Installation & Construction of Hardscape

Green Jay Landscaping's expert masonry teams craft natural stone walkways, patios, retaining walls, staircases, and more. We also work with stucco and stone veneer. Driveway siting and installation (gravel, Belgium block, curbing, and edging) is also in our purview.

Step 5 - Delineate Planting Beds & Amend Soil

Green Jay Landscape Design garden crews mark out new planting beds, weed and/or dethatch the area, and amend soil with organic compost, biochar, and bio-stimulants. Soil tests may reveal additional recommendations.

Step 6 - Planting

Our designers finalize plant placement on-site, collaborating with the client to ensure views are accentuated and screened perfectly. Plantings range from trees to shrubs, perennials, annuals, containers, and vertical gardens. Install crews follow organic horticulture planting techniques and edge beds.

Step 7 - Irrigation & Finishing

Proper irrigation is the key to a successful garden. Following a custom irrigation installation by our Preferred Providers, planting beds are mulched and finished.

Step 8 - Outdoor Lighting

Our Preferred Providers design and install  custom landscape lighting plans.

Step 9 - Walkthrough

Final walkthrough with client and designer to ensure ultimate satisfaction with the project. Modifications made if necessary. Project closes, local maintenance providers recommended or Residential Sustainable Stewardship begins.
