Garden Design in Briarcliff Manor, NY That Restores Beauty and Balance to Your Land

Ecological Landscape Design Rooted in Art, Science, and Stewardship

What if your garden design could do more than decorate your home? What if it healed the soil beneath your feet, brought pollinators back, and reminded you that beauty and ecology belong together?

At Green Jay Landscape Design, we believe a well-planned garden doesn’t just enhance your property—it restores its health. Our ecological landscape design process unites art, science, and stewardship to create gardens that thrive naturally in the distinctive environment of Briarcliff Manor, New York.

Certified Wildlife Habitat

  • Responsible Land Stewardship
Every property is part of a living system. We restore that system through 100 percent organic design and installation practices—no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, only living soil biology and plant communities that build resilience over time. Layered native trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennials provide structure, seasonal color, and habitat for birds and pollinators while improving soil and capturing stormwater.
  • A Proven Design Process
Beautiful, enduring gardens never happen by chance. Each project begins with a detailed master plan that helps you visualize the layout, materials, and planting sequences before work begins. Our team communicates clearly throughout, giving you confidence in the timing, investment, and long-term performance of your new landscape.
  • A Network of Trusted Partners
Through years of collaboration with local craftspeople and contractors, we coordinate every aspect of installation—grading, drainage, natural stone, irrigation, and organic maintenance—so your project runs efficiently and reflects our shared ecological values.

A Green Jay garden is more than a design; it’s a living landscape that matures in beauty and biodiversity each year. Schedule your consultation today to restore balance, health, and enduring value to your property.

Why Thoughtful Garden Design Outperforms Conventional Landscaping

Most landscapes fade after spring. Shrubs lose shape, mulch breaks down, and color disappears. Our ecological garden design approach creates layered, living structure that endures across every season.

We combine understory trees, flowering shrubs, deep-rooted grasses, and long-bloom perennials to deliver year-round form, color, and motion. In January, sculptural silhouettes rise from snow. In May, Eastern redbud and Amsonia announce spring with pink and blue drifts. By November, switchgrass and seedheads shimmer with life, feeding birds through winter. Each planting is intentional, balancing beauty with ecological function.

Why it works:

  • Habitat and Biodiversity – Native massings create safe cover for birds, butterflies, and pollinators while reducing your lawn footprint.

  • Low-Maintenance Performance – Root systems adapt to local soils and climate, minimizing irrigation and chemical inputs.

  • Healthier Soil, Healthier Living – Our 100 percent organic installation process strengthens the soil food web, locks carbon underground, and supports climate resilience.

  • Long-Term Beauty – Plant communities evolve gracefully, ensuring your landscape matures instead of declining.

The Power of Planning and Design

Great landscapes never happen by accident. Every thriving garden begins with a tailored design plan that translates your ideas into a clear, actionable vision.

  • Clarity and Vision: See your future garden before the first shovel hits the ground.

  • Efficiency: Design-led projects eliminate guesswork and costly mid-build changes.

  • Longevity: Ecological design draws on plant succession data for landscapes that improve over time.

Skip firms that cut corners or sell chemical treatments. True garden design restores life above and below ground—delivering beauty, resilience, and peace of mind for years to come.

FAQ Answers to Your Garden-Design Questions

Do I need a design plan before installation?

Yes. Every successful garden begins with a custom design. It ensures plants are selected for the right conditions and that the space functions well year-round.

Do you use native plants exclusively?

We prioritize native plants due to their ecological benefits but occasionally include select non-invasive ornamentals when they add unique value or extended bloom.

Is this truly organic?

Yes. Our gardens are installed using organic compost, rock powders, and living soil strategies never synthetic chemicals or pesticides.

How does this help birds and pollinators?

We design with a sequence of blooms, berries, and seedheads, plus layered planting for shelter. It creates year-round habitat for birds, butterflies, and other beneficial wildlife.

Do you remove lawn areas?

Only when appropriate. We work with you to reduce lawn in favor of planting areas where it makes sense, improving biodiversity, saving water, and building healthy soil.

How long does the installation take?

It depends on the scope and season. After finalizing your design, we’ll provide a clear installation timeline.

Our Design Process: Where Art Meets Ecology

Over our years of experience in the Westchester County, New York tri-state area, we've refined our process to ensure outstanding results for our clients. This is what to expect when you work with us:

Step 1 - Site Protection & Construction Layout

Complete necessary site protection: mark utilities and hazards and install erosion control and mature tree protection. Layout approved design on-site.

Step 2 - Site Development & Land Clearing

Perform necessary grading, terraforming, terracing, and/or excavating to prepare the land for design development.

Step 3 - Hardscape & Plant Materials Selection

We hand-select each and every tree, shrub, perennial, boulder, and path/patio stone used in our projects. Details define a design!

Step 4 - Installation & Construction of Hardscape

Green Jay Landscaping's expert stonework teams craft natural stone walkways, patios, boulder retaining features, stone staircases, and more. We also work with stucco and stone veneer. Driveway siting and installation (gravel, Belgium block, curbing, and edging) is also in our purview.

Step 5 - Delineate Planting Beds & Amend Soil

Green Jay Landscape Design garden crews mark out new planting beds, weed and/or dethatch the area, and amend soil with organic compost, biochar, and bio-stimulants. Soil tests may reveal additional recommendations.

Step 6 - Planting

Our designers finalize plant placement on-site, collaborating with the client to ensure views are accentuated and screened perfectly. Plantings range from trees to shrubs, perennials, annuals, containers, and vertical gardens. Install crews follow organic horticulture planting techniques and edge beds.

Step 7 - Irrigation & Finishing

Proper irrigation is the key to a successful garden. Following a custom irrigation installation by our Preferred Providers, planting beds are mulched and finished.

Step 8 - Outdoor Lighting

Our Preferred Providers design and install  custom landscape lighting plans.

Step 9 - Walkthrough

Final walkthrough with client and designer to ensure ultimate satisfaction with the project. Modifications made if necessary. Project closes, local maintenance providers recommended or Residential Sustainable Stewardship begins.
